‘Bodies X Borders’: QueerAsia's conference and filmfest 2018!

by QueerAsia

‘Queer’ Asia is a network of queer identifying scholars, academics, activists, artists and performers. It is a platform for inter-Asia collaboration, dialogue and research on issues affecting people who self-identify as LGBTQ+ or belong to other non-normative sexualities and gender identities in Asia, or Asian diasporas and beyond.

QueerAsia conference

With two queerly packed conferences in June 2016 and June 2017 we’re all set to bring out the third installment of QA titled ‘Bodies X Borders’. Our conferences feature academic panels, films, and talks from all over Asia including South Korea, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, China, Singapore, and Mongolia.

This year we organise the third edition of our annual conference with Queer Asia 2018: Bodies X Borders (QA18). It focuses on new dialogues on burgeoning questions around bodies and borders, with their attendant biopolitics. We bring together activists, artists, academics, film makers, and performers from all across Asia and engage in a robust dialogue with each other and across disciplines.

The Conference will be held from 26-28 June at SOAS, Uni. of London with some partner events at UCL. Check out the full schedule here | Join the event on Facebook here.

Following the success of our film festival last year, we are back with the second edition of the ‘Queer’ Asia Film Festival to be held over five days at the British Museum and SOAS, University of London. Following the theme of this year, the festival evokes frames of visualising queer bodies transgressing (norms, nations, identities) in a fast changing global world. We will show case 30 films including the first ever ‘Queer’ Asia Short Shorts, a collection of 22 short films from countries including China, India, Myanmar, Thailand, and Lebanon.

The Film Festival will be held on 24 and 29 June at British Museum with screenings on 25, 27 & 28 June at SOAS, Uni. of London and Uni. of Warwick. Check out the full schedule here | Join the event on Facebook here.

The conference and film festival is made accessible and remains free and we continue to rely on your support and encouragment in maintaining this diverse platform for inter-Asia dialogue, research and collaboration.

How are queer lives being managed and manoeuvred? How do they intersect and intervene with the realities and representations of queer communities in Asia and within Asian diasporas.
