Top 10: Things to do in the Sunshine

Summer is on its way and we hope London will see some sun! There are plenty of great activities to do around Camden, whether you want to soak up some sunshine or hide from the heat. We've compiled a list of the best things to for when the hotter weather hits - from festivals to kayaking, there's something for everyone! 

 

1. Enjoy the sunshine in Granary Square

Covered in green during the summer months, these steps lead down to the canal in granary square and are a great place to catch some relaxing sunshine. The steps often are home to performances and last year was the home of a floating cinema screen.

With a KERB market adjacent and the Granary Square fountains close by, there is something for everyone in the sunshine. On a sunny day, the square transforms into an urban beach, with kids of all ages dashing through the water

 

2. Walk or kayak along Regent’s Canal

Running through Regent's Park, this canal is a little Venice in a bustling city. Lined with colourful rowboats, you can hop from cafes to restaurants along the water's edge. You can take a kayak or a narrowboat tour around to see a different side of Camden, we now have access to this hidden treasure and can appreciate the beauty of the waterway with its colourful narrowboats, ivy-clad walls and rich bird life.

3. Enjoy some of the green spaces around Camden

We all crave the quiet from time to time. Especially in a metropolis like London, it can sometimes seem like the world is made entirely of grey concrete and black asphalt. 4. Cool off with a cool Ice Cream!

Or visit an insitution Marine Ices, the home of authentic Italian gelato! With over 40 flavours, this parlour was the first to open in London in 1931!

5. Cool down in the Fountains at Swiss Cottage

Swiss Cottage Open Space was created in 2006 as part of the development of the Swiss Cottage library, leisure centre and Hampstead Theatre. Directly outside the library is an grassy, hilly open space with a contemporary water fountain at the centre. Swiss Cottage Open Space is known as a hub for parents, children, community groups and local residents which makes this location perfect for small events, picnics and active classes.

6. Visit some of the many free Community Festivals!

Each year, Camden Council funds Community Festivals that happen all across the borough. These festivals can vary from religious events, to music festivals to markets and are a great way to spend a summers day. They are open to the whole community and are completely free.

7. See some Live music at Camden Rocks Festival

Every year Camden Rocks brings together hundreds of artists across multiple infamous Camden Music venues! An independent urban festival showcasing 400 of the best new and established bands in the UK’s beating heart of music and revelry, Camden Town, this year happening from the 1st - 2nd of June. 8. Walk along Museum Mile

Museum Mile is a perfect way to explore the borough of Camden in sunny weather and snap up some culture at the same time. Museum Mile is the area between Kings Cross and the River Thames and home to 13 extraordinary, world-class museums. 9. Camden Fringe

Every summer, the Camden fringe comes to town and brings with it top quality entertainment, including theatre, stand up and a variety of performances across many Camden venues. This year, the fringe will be taking place from the 30th of July to the 26th of August and can be a perfect escape for the summer months. More info here! 

10. Explore everything Camden Market has to offer

From vintage fairs to a wide range of food, Camden market has something for everyone. You can always rely on the market to be a bubble of culture, food and stalls. Have a drink by the canal, try some new food at KERB, visit unique shops or nab some vintage gear. There are always things to do in Camden Market, come rain or shine.
