The Women in Film Project

For International Women’s Day, our Love Camden editors attended Creativity in the Spotlight for International Women’s Day, a full day programme that engaged with women in the arts, taking place on the 8 March 2017 at the Arlington House Conference Centre. The full day event celebrated women in the arts, media and creative industries through talks, screenings and networking opportunities.

Not only were there multiple powerful women telling us about their lives and their stories, but in particular we came to see the women who partook in the ‘Women in Film’ project.

The initiative, a collaboration between Camden Council and Central Saint Martins, offered a free film-making course to women interested in the creative industries. It was an opportunity for a diverse group of women who enjoy making, thinking and creating using film as a medium. Ten local women aged 19 to 54 produced a short film about barriers to working in this sector, exploring the hurdles they encountered in working or trying to work in the arts, media or creative industries. This amazing project showed that, no matter what your history is, you always have a voice, a story to tell, or an image to show, and that together, we are stronger.
