Camden People's Theatre

Top 30 things in Camden: Camden People's Theatre

Founded in 1994 by a group of theatre practitioners interested in developing a collaborative working method and a visual, gestural style of performance, Camden People’s Theatre has been dedicating itself to artists and audiences that take risks and make exciting choices. To this day, CPT continues to forge short- and long-term relationships with a diverse range of companies and artists and very few venues can match their depth of involvement in visual, physical and collaboratively-made theatre.

Initially, CPT focused on making non-text-based theatre productions at affordable prices and with an international flavor, alongside workshops and classes in the local community. Over the years, however, CPT has evolved, aiming to produce, promote, support, mentor and provide resources for new, emerging and established performance companies and solo artists who work in ways that extend the boundaries of theatre and performance.

CPT aims to present a program that reflects the cultural and social diversity of west Euston, London and the UK. This is adventurous theatre at its best, where every night is a surprise. With great initiatives such as the annual Sprint Festival (started in 1997) and their development/peer network program called Starting Blocks, CPT is all about pushing the boundaries of theatre forward, reaching out to bring variety back on the stage. As such, CPT is an invaluable resource to a range of communities: the local communities of South Camden/West Euston; the wider London audience; and the community of theatre & arts practitioners on a local, national and international basis. In 2016, CPT will launch their new Youth Theatre program called CYT, in collaboration with the Fitzrovia Community Centre and New Diorama Theatre.

So grab a couple of friends, get a drink at the bar and enjoy some of the best fringe theatre this side of the city!
