On Friday 4 October we had the perfect start to Camden's Black History Season – our three month celebration of the incredible and wonderful achievements and contributions of Black people across Camden and the UK.

We started off with incredible drumming and jaw-dropping performances by One Drum Africa who had the crowd dancing from Granary Square through Coal Drops Yard, followed by a Libation to bless the event.

We then moved on to the Samsung KX building where we were welcomed by the Mayor of Camden Councillor Samata Khatoon and Councillor Sabrina Francis (Cabinet Member for Jobs, Young People and Culture), outlining the importance of Black History Season and highlighting our jam-packed programme.

We enjoyed beautiful performances from Artistry Youth Dance and Melodic Janelle and heard from some of the amazing contributors to the season including Black Owned London, Grass Roots Arts Studios, Film Africa and Camden's Black Workers Group. We were also honoured to welcome Lavinya Stennett, CEO of The Black Curriculum, our partner for Black History Season, as she shared more about their vital work in education and its Camden roots.

Thank you so much to everyone for coming and celebrating the start of this incredible season of events.
