Bringing the community together for Windrush 2024

Hundreds of people gathered in a park on a sunny day, there are trees and tents in the background
The 22nd June 2024 marks the 76th anniversary of the arrival of HMS Windrush

Camden’s Windrush story is one which stands on the shoulders of pioneers such as David Pitt, Baron of Hampstead and Claudia Jones whose activism and campaigning shaped UK multiculturalism. Our borough is home to a generation of Windrush children; innovators, creatives, artists, musicians and disruptors who have influenced the face of modern and contemporary Britain, notable names include Jazzie B, Zak Ove, Akala, Miss Dynamite and Kingsley Ben-Adir.

In 2023 we celebrated Windrush through a programme created to identify the borough's Windrush story and draw out a narrative to platform and celebrate our pioneers, activists, and innovators.

You can see the success of last years events in this short video.

Back by popular demand for the second time, celebrations will include:

17th June - Annual Pitt Lecture

22nd June - Windrush Day Homecoming Celebration, 12-7pm

At the celebration event, you can expect DJ's, ska, reggae legends and special guests.

There'll also be African and Caribbean crafts, food and drinks and the opportunity to meet community organisations.

Keep an eye out for more information and updates coming soon!
