Lady Somerset Road Street Party

A vibrant, welcoming, community street party bringing together local people to share a meal of home-made food and get to know each another. Music, sports, games, entertainment and a no car zone for the day.

Lady Somerset Road Street Party, organised annually since 2000, is a welcoming, free event bringing together the whole community in a joyful day: enhancing cohesion, promoting inter-community and neighbourly relations. The centre-piece is a shared meal starting at 12.30 occupying a portion of a closed, traffic-free street.

Tables are decorated by the residents for everyone to share lunch and tea, with home-made food prepared by residents. By eating together, everyone makes friends and new connections. We aim to be single use plastic-free and compost food waste.

The street party offers a wonderful safe space for children to play together. We organise a programme of free activities throughout the day – encouraging participation among our diverse communities, those in social and private housing, across all age groups. This includes live music, dance, arts, crafts, sports, games, magic and performances, including a Ceilidh, a Steel Band, the popular Dog Show, and a Community Film Festival.
